LinkModem™ enables your customers to pilot and deploy your digital writing system without the delays and frustrations of trying to install applications on their phones or workstations.
We developed LinkModem™ because we were constantly struggling with IT administrators who didn’t want to install applications on mobile devices for very good reasons.
We struggled with trying to support all the new mobile devices entering the market - some of which wouldn’t allow the Bluetooth stack to send data. Users didn’t want to change their phones to a different model.
The LinkModem™ helps you get your solution deployed. All the user has to do is write like they’ve done since kindergarten and check a box. LinkModem™ makes digital writing easy!

Award
Famhost, named Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce 2010 Small Business Award finalist.
LinkModem™ was conceived and developed to fill a need. Famhost is one of the first Application Hosting Systems. Long before the Cloud became popular we decided to go exclusively On Line. Since January 1st 2002, we have hosted mission critical applications. Most of our customers conduct every aspect of their business on our servers and have access from anywhere in the world.
For the vertical markets we serve, getting the pen data from the field was critical and the interfaces with various phones were not stable. Our clients wanted the freedom to use any type of phone and it became increasingly difficult to support the different phone operating systems.
Some of the phones would not allow (legally) the ability to send pen data through their Bluetooth stack. Some of the phones lost the data if the phone locked up (a very common occurrence).
We looked hard for a dedicated modem, and finally after much pain and lost deployments, we finally came to the conclusion that we would have to build our own.
The production of our own modem was certainly harder than expected, but it looks like we have it ready for production. It is stable and we plan to offer it in GPRS, CDMA, WiMax and WiFi flavors.
We have spent well over $500,000 on R&D and hope to use it with many other types of Bluetooth devices like bar code scanners. In addition to Bluetooth, we plan to incorporate other input protocols including ad-hoc WiFi, USB, serial, RFID, magnetic card, Smartcard and Zigbee readers. GPS location and time tracking can be included with the other data.
We are also writing a Handler server which will parse the different types of data, times and device IDs and send the data to the appropriate processing server, enabling pen users to use multiple providers.
Faster Transmission
Transmits faster than smart phones,
® Blackberries or other mobile devices and even docking to a PC.
Faster Deployment
Faster deployments since nothing has to be installed on the user’s workstation or laptop computers.
More Efficient
Eliminates the need for the user to wait till they get back to a computer to transmit the data reducing the time it takes to process.
Transmits Automatically
Modem transmits automatically so the user doesn’t have to start an application or ® Bluetooth on the phone and remember passwords and security codes.
More Accurate
Realtime data is more accurate data. The Linkmodem transmits data at the point of service faster and more dependably.
Less Expensive
Data plans are less expensive and easier to deploy than air cards or air time plans on cellular devices.
Increase Productivity
Eliminates the loss of productivity that
results when complicated hardware
devices fail. People can still do their job.
Secure Data Transmission
Virtually eliminates any possibility that the pen data will be lost or destroyed before the data is transmitted
Power
Hold Power button down for 2 seconds to turn unit on or off. Wait until Battery and Signal LEDs light up before using.
Bluetooth
Signal LEDs show tower strength. If the modem has no coverage, the data will remain on the modem and retry at set intervals.
Signal
Signal LEDs show tower strength. If the modem has no coverage, the data will remain on the modem and
retry at set intervals.
Battery
Battery Level Indicator LEDs. The highest Battery LED will flash when charging. Once the unit is fully charged, the top LED will stay solid. If you power down the Linkmodem while charging, none of the LEDs will light, but the unit will still charge. If you charge the unit directly through the wall adapter, it will fully charge in about 2 hours. It may take longer if you charge through a USB power port on your computer. There no difference in charging time whether the modem is on or off.
Network Sync
Signal LEDs show tower strength. If the modem has no coverage, the data will remain on the
LinkModem and retry at set intervals.
Transmit
When the server acknowledges that it has received the data from the modem, the Transmit LED will flash green.
